Hong Kong Cemetery Guided Tour
Join us for a guided walk among the graves of colonial officials, soldiers, missionaries, and seafarers, as well as Commonwealth memorials from both World Wars. Next door lie Catholic, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Parsee burial grounds, a vivid reminder of the many communities that have shaped Hong Kong.
Since 1845, the Hong Kong Cemetery has quietly occupied a leafy hillside in Happy Valley, just across from the racecourse. Once known as the Colonial Cemetery, it is one of the city’s most fascinating yet least-visited heritage sites, a garden-like place where almost two centuries of Hong Kong history are written in stone.
Our guide, Marco Foehn, came to Hong Kong in the early 1980s and spent many years in banking before becoming COO of the German Swiss International School and Director of WalkHK. He has been sharing his passion for the city’s history and culture with visitors and residents ever since.
The route covers about 3.5 km with roughly 250 m of elevation. It is not a hike, but comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended.
