Welcome to the Hong Kong Vienna Opera Ball!

On Saturday 27 September 2008, the Austrian community in Hong Kong held its first charity Vienna Opera Ball, a night personifying glamour, romance, and elegance.

The Vienna Opera Ball began in Vienna, Austria, in the 18th Century, and is the highlight of the over 250 balls that grace the city of Vienna every year.

In Hong Kong, the special evening began with a cocktail reception in the Foyer of the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt. Guests enjoyed pre-dinner drinks and soaked up the Austrian atmosphere. The décor of the Foyer, kindly sponsored by the State-of-the-Arts Gallery, included Austrian sculptures and paintings, with one exclusively commissioned for the Ball by the highly collectible Austrian artist, Emil Hecker, which was auctioned for charity at the Ball.

Lucky guests then proceeded into the Grand Hyatt’s Grand Ballroom with a beautifully recreated ambiance of Vienna and the Baroque era elegantly blended with present-day Hong Kong. With glittering Swarovski-sponsored décor and tiaras for the debutantes, the ball further reflected the cultural bridge and strong, and historic, trade links between Austria and Hong Kong.

The event has been held twice, and we are eager to plan another ball in the future!
