From July 4 to 11, 2026, young people from across Europe will come together in Krems an der Donau for the annual eljub E-Book Week 2026 — an inspiring intercultural project week dedicated to creativity, communication, and digital media.
Participants from Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and the home countries of participating Austrians abroad will explore innovative approaches to reading, writing, filmmaking, and digital storytelling. Through interactive workshops, the students will collaboratively develop and discuss topics of their choice in an intercultural environment.
The workshops are supported by experts from the European Literature Days and the TV community channel OKTO, offering participants valuable insights into modern media production and communication. A central focus of the project is the integration of young people with refugee and migration backgrounds. Important partnerships with the projects “Sag’s Multi” and the Lower Austria Youth Speech Competition help strengthen this mission.
The week encourages intercultural exchange, solidarity, and creativity among Europe’s youth while highlighting shared values and perspectives. In addition to the workshops, participants will enjoy an extensive cultural and social programme in Krems, the Wachau region, and surrounding areas. Sports activities, cultural visits, and sightseeing opportunities will complete the experience and provide participants with a deeper understanding of modern Europe.
The European Youth Encounters are organised by the association p&s melk in cooperation with the Lower Austrian Youth Department and the European Literature Days. In 2026, the project is supported by the EU programme Erasmus+: Youth in Action.
